Can I Get Pregnant On My Period? Find out the truth!

Can I get pregnant during my periods? Of course you can. If you think the question is ridiculous, think again! The ‘impossibility’ is in fact a possibility even if during the menstrual phase you have indulged in unprotected sex. There are a number of cases on record and now you can no more denounce this as simple heresy. You need to understand that though the possibility of getting pregnant while menstrual bleeding is still on is much lower, one cannot rule out the same.

Can I get pregnant during my periods?

Conception during the so-called infertile period is in fact even difficult to diagnose and predict. If you are a woman who is combating the condition called polymenorrhea , then the phenomenon should not surprise you one bit. When menstrual bleeding is more and your period cycle takes place every 22 days, the condition opens you up to such a possibility.

This highly dysfunctional uterine condition involves bleeding at shorter intervals. In such a case the luteal phase in a woman is much shorter than it is in others. This refers to the time during which ovulation and the next period sets in. do not confuse the condition with spotting. In the case of someone who has the condition called Polymenorrhea, metrorrhagia or the commonly referred to term – spotting, occurs due to the periods following one another in close proximity.

There is no doubt that the condition is very tiring, sometimes painful and very discomforting. With the periods coming on sooner than in the case of most others, most of the time the pregnancy goes unattended for a while.  However, you should note that Polymenorrhea also ushers in the possibility of complications like infertility in the long run. The causes for the condition are many.

Probable Polymenorrhea causes:

Understanding your anatomy is important. During your periods the ovaries throw out ovum cells that are mature. This ovulation is most noted around a fortnight prior to your periods. The unfertilized but mature ovum stays on a good 24 hours before being thrown out of the system due to menstrual bleeding.

Then, you need to understand that fertilized eggs before or after ovulation are the result of sexual intercourse. Under ideal conditions the genital organs hold the eggs for even up to four-five days. In the case of a woman with Polymenorrheais, the presence of sperm and the survival of the eggs within the reproductive system bring on early conception at times and that too during menstruation.

Sex during menstruation:

Sex during menstruation is something that couples today have come to terms with. It is no more taboo or dirty or as older beliefs go – unhealthy in any way. It is not at all surprising as a woman to find yourself wanting to indulge in the act during the phase at all! In fact, due to the heightened hormonal secretion during your monthly periods, it is natural to want to have sex.

It is time to set aside myths and misconceptions about periods and the possibility of conception. Ii does not happen in most cases, but the possibility cannot be ruled out all the same. The female menstrual cycle is not something that is dirty or unclean. It is this very cycle that gets the anatomy of the woman ready for conception. So then how can it be unhealthy?

Odds and evens:

In case as a couple the two of you do not want the baby right way, then the best way to go about dodging conception point is investing in commercial contraceptives. Indulging in sex without protection during the periods and not expecting to conceive is folly. Again, reiterating – not most of the time, but a possibility that lurks at the bedroom window. Today there are a number of contraception methods available in the commercial markets, making planning of a baby so much easier.

It really is possible to get pregnant during your periods, both in theory and in practice. Even if you have indulged in unprotected sex just once and during your periods, it is possible to conceive, especially if you have Polymenorrhea. How conception works is as simple as it can be complex and beautiful like the human anatomy. Getting pregnant during your periods is completely possible, as it is not uncommon today to come across cases where the ovaries release eggs that get attached within the walls of the fallopian tubes and fertilize in the event of unprotected sex during the time.

Tipping of hormones:

It is important that whenever the question of you having a baby arises, that you count and table your periods and the time in between.  The cycle can even vary in days and months. The moment the balance of hormones gets tipped; periods or no periods, it is not surprising that you will want to indulge in sex and risk fertilization. Within about 24 hours if the egg does not fertilize, remember that it is only shed during the next period phase. The egg latches on to the uterus and stays there to develop into a baby with the slightest carelessness during the act; that is if you do not want to conceive.

Some sperms are observed to have a longer life than others. They ‘live’ inside 3-4 days post- intercourse and at times even 5-7 days! They are, at this point in time able to fertilize the stray egg. When having sex during the time, conception could result. Even in the case of short menstrual cycles, you do ovulate during your periods, and this makes getting pregnant a strong possibility.

Still asking can I get pregnant during my periods? – You really need to understand your body and its ingrained ability to conceive offspring a little more in detail. Your body is meant to be loved nd is unique in every way. It will do you good as a newly wed to understand its nature and plan well, to evade any uncalled-for occurrences.  Your periods and conception are related and more than you think, right?
